The Best Rooftops in Athens for Drinks, Bites, and That Acropolis View

Athens is one of those cities where the energy changes the moment the sun starts to set. The air gets warmer, music drifts up from the streets, and suddenly every rooftop becomes an invitation. Whether you’re chasing an Acropolis view, a great cocktail, or just a spot to unwind with friends, Athens has a rooftop for every mood.

After multiple trips (and plenty of rooftop research), these are the six rooftops I always return to. Some you’ve probably seen all over Instagram, and a few might just become your new favorites.

A for Athens is the classic rooftop — the one everyone tells you to visit, and for good reason. It sits right over Monastiraki Square with a direct, dramatic view of the Acropolis. There are two levels: the first feels more like the bar/restaurant area with partial views, but once you take the stairs up, it’s full Parthenon glory.

Since it’s attached to a hotel, guests usually get priority, so make a reservation ahead of time if you’re coming for drinks or dinner. They serve bites and full meals, so you can easily settle in and stay awhile. It’s touristy, yes — but in the best way. You can’t beat that view.

Attic – My current obsession. Attic has become one of my go-to spots every time I’m in Athens. The ambiance is chic without trying too hard, the food is always on point, and the cocktails? Creative, different, and honestly worth the trip alone.

You’ll need a reservation — and yes, there’s a per-person deposit that changes depending on where you want to sit. This summer, I made sure my friends and I snagged a front-row Acropolis view. In previous years, when my cousin first introduced us to Attic, we sat more toward the center of the rooftop, and the vibe was just as good thanks to great music and even better company.

And if you’ve seen that viral swing set photo with the Acropolis behind it… yep, this is the place.

360 Rooftop – If A for Athens is booked and you’re already wandering through Monastiraki, 360 Rooftop is the perfect backup — though honestly, it stands strong on its own. Day or night, the Acropolis views are beautiful and the energy is always high.

Saturday nights turn into a full-on party, so you’ll want to book in advance (and be prepared for a deposit and minimum spend). It’s also part of a hotel, so keep in mind that guests often get first dibs on seating. Still, I’ve had great experiences here at all hours — it’s lively, social, and a guaranteed good time.

Elysium – We found Elysium completely by accident this summer while wandering from the Acropolis through Plaka — and honestly, those spontaneous finds are always the best. Elysium is another rooftop connected to a hotel, and it made for the perfect stop for pre-dinner drinks.

What I loved most? The view. In the Monastiraki/Plaka area, you typically see the Acropolis from the side, but Elysium gives you a rare front-facing perspective. My friends and I sat at the bar, enjoyed great cocktails, chatted, and soaked in the music and scenery. It’s also a popular dinner spot, especially for families or bigger groups — definitely make a reservation if you want to dine here.

Anglais Athens Rooftop  – If you want a rooftop that feels a little more local, Anglais is the move. It’s an all-day café, bar, and restaurant right in bustling Monastiraki, and when we came here to meet my cousin for late-evening drinks, the atmosphere was perfect.

Great service, great energy, and a gorgeous view, all without feeling too “touristy.” You can grab drinks or small bites here and just enjoy being in the middle of Athens life. It’s the kind of spot where you kick back and feel like you belong.

Just a few steps away from Attic and A for Athens, Hyper Astro Bar is another rooftop worth adding to your list. We came here for dinner and drinks during sunset, and it ended up being one of those unexpectedly perfect nights.

Like most rooftops with a front-row Acropolis view, it leans on the pricier side, but we genuinely loved the vibes and the layout. The space didn’t feel cramped, the music was great, and the overall atmosphere made it an easy place to unwind. It was the perfect spot for my family and me to catch up, enjoy one last Athens meal together, and close out our Greece trip on a high note.

Athens has a way of making every night feel like PTO mode, and these rooftops are a huge part of that magic. Whether you’re here for sunset cocktails, late-night bites, or that perfect Acropolis backdrop, each of these spots brings its own personality to the city skyline. So bookmark this list, make a few reservations, and get ready to trade your office view for something a little more legendary.
