Covo Dei Saraceni, Positano Italy
Positano is one of those bucket list destinations for the picturesque views, romantic skyline and delicious food. It is also notorious for being the most expensive towns to stay in the Amalfi Coast. Almost all the accommodations are situated on top or in the middle of the hill where you are constantly climbing up and down stairs. Most restaurants, shops, and bars are also located within the hill, so even if you think your destination is close, your walk takes a little longer than Maps estimates. Because of the stair dilemma, we debated for many weeks scouring through booking.com and Google searches for the right hotel. We chose to stay at the beautiful beach front hotel, Covo Dei Saraceni. As beach vacationers, we couldn’t be happier with the hotel as it has the most gorgeous view of the town, a pool and inches away from the beach. The hotel stay made our Amalfi Coast holiday as dreamy as it could get!

Location
The luxurious hotel is located at the bottom right of Positano’s hill, which you can see while descending the stairs to reach the hotel from the main road. There is easy access to Grande Beach, direct access to the ferries to different parts of the coast, and you can walk to the many restaurants in the city!
Room quality
The rooms are very beautiful and decorated like a vintage Italian home, making you feel like you are staying in your family’s villa on the Amalfi Coast. The house turned hotel was previously owned by an Italian family and as generations passed, they expanded the restaurant and hotel.

Cleanliness
Every day the room is cleaned spotless, and the beds are made. The hotel is eco-friendly, so if you want fresh towels and linens make sure you request them or leave the dirty linens on the floor to be replenished. Robes are included with your hotel stay and are not cleaned or replenished every day.
Amenities Included
- Continental Breakfast

- Rooftop Pool – One of the many amazing views the hotel has to offer. The pool includes lounge chairs and towels overlooking Positano and the sea. This is also a great picture spot so make sure you have your camera ready!

- Lounge Area – For all our remote workers, work or watch television with an amazing view of the ocean!
Extra Amenities
- Two Restaurants
- Rooftop bar and restaurant
- Cooking Class (available specific months of the year) – You can reserve to take a cooking class with the head chef of Covo Restaurant. Unfortunately, the chef was off during the month of August so we could not take the cooking class, but this is a great option to have as most cooking classes in Positano and surrounding towns fill up quickly.
- Porter Service – For a charge, the porter’s will bring your suitcase from your hotel to your car service or taxi upon your arrival or departure.

Customer Service
All the staff at Covo Dei Saraceni are accommodating, knowledgeable and kind! The staff will help you with all questions and the concierge desk will assist you in booking any excursions, ferries, or tax services. They will also provide great recommendations on where to eat and how to get around Positano Do not rely on Google and Apple maps as it isn’t the most helpful since the hotel is located on the bottom of the hill and all other accommodations, shops and restaurants and located climbing stairs or weaving through the town.
Public Transportation
There are buses and ferries that can take you to different cities on the Amalfi Coast, but within the city of Positano your mode of transportation is by foot. Ditch the pumps and slip on your favorite kicks because you will be getting a lot of steps in on your trip! Luckily, when you stay at Covo Dei Saraceni and want to take the ferry, they are located right behind the hotel. Unfortunately, if you prefer taking a bus or taxi to your destination you will have to climb the mountain up to the main road to get a ride.
Dining
There are many dining options associated with Covo Dei Saraceni; the breakfast buffet (included in your stay), the rooftop bar and lunch restaurant, the brasserie, and the Covo Restaurant. The Breakfast buffet is served every morning with a beautiful view of the sea. Once the buffet closes you can grab some sun, lunch and drinks at the rooftop pool restaurant and bar or the Covo Restaurant just outside of the hotel. The Pool Bar stops serving food after 3 p.m. and the restaurant closes for lunch and reopens for dinner. We ate at all the dining options at Covo Dei Sarceni and were pleased with all their meals! You can find more information about the restaurants at the hotel here as well as make a reservation for the day you would like dine.

We stayed in this room for five days; four nights and it was the perfect amount of space for us! The double bed was comfortable, and the staff set up a twin bed in the living room area for a third person. There was more than enough room for our luggage and resting. The bathroom was also very spacious and had a double sink which is beneficial when there are three women on vacation trying to get ready. Safety
The hotel is very safe and there is 24/7 service at the front desk. Although the room keys were set like homeowner keys, we still felt very safe and that our belongings were secure once we left the hotel. There are a flock of tourists that are traveling in and out of the area due to the hotel being next to the ferries but the staff on site has great security.
Popular attractions
- Positano Spaggia (main beach)
- Fornillo Spiaggia
- Music on the Rocks
- Chiesa di Santa

Check in/check out process
The check in and check out processes at Covo Dei Saraceni are pretty standard as check in time is 3:00 p.m. (14:00) and checkout time is 11:00 a.m. We were not able to check in early, but the front desk held our bags until our room was ready and we were still able to use all the facilities while we waited. If you have an early flight departing out of Naples, make sure to plan with the staff on reserving a porter to get your bags (this is optional, but I definitely did not want to carry my 40 pound suitcase up the stairs at 5:00 a.m.) You will also need to plan with then front desk on where to leave your keys before leaving the premises. You have the ability to close your bill the night before. The staff are very accommodating in making sure your arrival and departure from your stay is smooth and easy!
Airport/Port pickup & drop off
The hotel does offer airport and drop off for an extra charge, but it is a little more expensive than reserving one yourself from a third party website like Expedia. Positano is an hour and a half drive from Naples Airport, which is the most common airport to fly into when visiting the Amalfi Coast. The concierge can help you book a taxi to the airport for your departing flight out of Naples, but we suggest you book through a third party as it is cheaper and can guarantee a ride to and from the airport! If you would like to request an airport pick up with the hotel check it out on their website here.
Positives & Negatives
Positives:
- The views of the town and sea and unmatched
- Direct access to the beach and ferries
- Rooftop pool
- Many restaurant options
- Close proximity to bars and clubs
- Steps away from catching a ferry to another town of the Amalfi Coast
Negatives:
- More expensive than rentals or Airbnbs
- Since it’s located at the bottom of the hill you have to climb to the most popular restaurants, bars and shops
- A lot of traffic in front of the hotel due to ferries
- Cannot accommodate four guests on certain room types
Where to Book Your Stay
You can book your stay on a couple of websites. We recommend booking through your travel rewards programs or the hotels website directly.
The family home from the 19th century now turned luxury hotel, Covo Dei Sarceni, is a hotel hard to miss when visiting Positano. It may cost a pretty penny if you are staying at peak tourist season, but the beautifully decorated rooms, charming backdrop views, and location steps away from Spiaggia Grande make it one of the best accommodations to choose in Positano I am very grateful to have been able to spend my time in Positano here with my family and felt like I was on a true getaway at the Amalfi Coast.

those views are stunning! I need to book my trip to Positano. 😍😍
